SAT Essay: Current Event

Link of the Day

To all of the students who are reading this blog on a summer Saturday:  Keep up the good work!  Surely you have heard the controversy surrounding summer vacation.  Some people think that it is worthwhile for kids to get a break from school, but others believe that it is detrimental to learning.

Your SAT essay prompt will require you to think critically about an issue, so practice with this issue.  Read this article on the subject.  Do you agree with the points that the author makes?  Which ones are solidly supported with facts?  Are there other facts that the author fails to account for in this article?  Identify the broad themes in this article and the details that you might need in order to support any assertion related to these themes.  A current debate can certainly count as a current event.
