SAT Essay: History

Link of the Day

In order to understand current events, one often has to turn to history.  On June 27, 1950, President Truman ordered the United States to intervene in the Korean War.  Read an article providing context for the event here, and read Truman's statement about his decision here.  This information should not only help you understand current events, but it should also give you insight into many of the themes that are likely to appear in the SAT essay prompt.  How could you use this event as an excellent example in your answer to the following SAT essay questions?

1.  Is the world changing for the better?

2.  Can success be disastrous?  (Be sure to address why China entered the war!)

3.  Do we need other people in order to understand ourselves?  (Think about what it means to be an isolated nation in a world full of technology.)
