SAT Essay: History

Link of the Day

There are some moments in history that show the amazing achievements that are possible when people work together rather than against each other.  During the Space Race, the USSR and the US competed against one other in an attempt to show supremacy as an extension of the Cold War.  By June 29, 1995, however, Russians and Americans celebrated a joint venture in space.  Read a contemporary article about the event here.  Think about why this change occurred, then think about this historical event in the context of these SAT essay questions:

1.  Is the world changing for the better?

2.  Is conscience a more powerful motivator than money, fame, or power?

3.  What motivates people to change?

4.  Should people change their decisions when circumstances change, or is it best for them to stick with their original decisions?

Note: These essay prompts show that change is an important theme to consider while preparing for the SAT essay.  Be sure to examine what all of your excellent examples indicate about how and why change occurs.
