Link of the Day
As you look for current events to prepare yourself for the SAT essay, be sure to do more than just read a headline or two. For example, check out this article entitled "Threatened Grizzly Bears in Montana to Lose Federal Protection." Why are the bears losing protection? Because their numbers exceed the goals set for them by the Fish and Wildlife Service! Why might the title of this article be negative rather than positive?
If the conservation of animals interests you, write down the relevant details from the article. Then consider how you could connect this current event to an SAT essay question such as:
Is the world changing for the better?
Can success be disastrous?
This article can be relevant even for questions that seem to be about humans rather than bears. For example, consider this SAT essay question: Do changes that make our lives easier not necessarily make them better? What would be the easiest way of dealing with a dangerous animal? Probably to eliminate it. What do people gain from living in a world where there are grizzly bears?
