As you look for current events to use as excellent examples for your SAT essay, be sure to select events that relate to a wide variety of themes. Can you address all of the following questions using a single event?
1. Should heroes be defined as people who say what they think when we ourselves lack the courage to say it?
2. Should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or the nation in general?
3. Can knowledge be a burden rather than a benefit?
4. Should we pay more attention to people who are older and more experienced than we are?
You can answer all of these questions with a single example. Read this article about Malala Yousafzai, a girl who was shot for advocating education for girls. She celebrated her 16th birthday by addressing the United Nations about the very same subject. Also, take a look at this article about the reporters who are covering this story. Some of them are younger than you might expect. If this current event interests you, be sure to write down the relevant details of the story, and think about all the themes that are mentioned in these articles. Then look back at the SAT questions listed above. How would you answer these questions using this current event?
