The Iar ExamS for the Talent Identification Program

The Baylor Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development launched its Talent Identification Program in the Fall of 2021.

To qualify for recognition as a Baylor TIP Scholar, students must take either the Knowsys IAR or IAR 8/9 exam. For more information on the two exams, see below.

Overview:

  • Standard audience: High School Juniors and Seniors and Baylor TIP Grades 7+ (for the IAR Version) or 8th and 9th Graders and Baylor TIP Grades 4-6 (for the 8/9 Version)

  • Testing Time: 2 hours

  • Sections: 4

  • Questions: 110

  • Format: Online

Math/Science Sections

  • 2 sections

  • 30 questions, 30 minutes per section

  • Math (74%) and Science (26%)

Tested Math Content (44 questions)

  • Algebra

  • Data Analysis

  • Advanced Math

  • Geometry

  • Trigonometry (not on the IAR 8/9)

Tested Science Content (16 questions)

  • Reading graphs, tables, & schematics

  • Understanding complex data

  • Evaluating conclusions & hypotheses

  • Making generalizations, deductions, & predictions

Reading/Writing Sections

  • 2 sections

  • 25 questions, 30 minutes per section

  • Reading (40%), Writing (50%), and Vocabulary (10%)

Tested Reading Content (20 questions)

  • Comprehension (details, inference, main idea)

  • Analysis (compare/contrast, logic, point of view, purpose, structure, & tone)

Tested Writing Content (25 questions)

  • Grammar (boundaries, modifiers, parallelism, possessives, pronouns, subject/verb agreement, and verbs)

  • Writer’s Craft (focus, purpose, transitions, use of data, and words and expressions)

Tested Vocabulary Content (5 questions)

  • Analogies

  • Sentence Completions

  • Words in Context
